ON TARGET: People Matter
Local churches are coming to the aid of schools across the First Coast with widespread success. The initiative began due to cuts in state funding, and the state’s Department of Education has looked to the community for assistance. Currently, about 100 local churches are assisting 130 schools by creating book fairs, school supply and clothing drives, holiday parties, hearing and vision screenings, landscaping projects, mentoring students and serving as teacher aides.
